A bonafide banjo player from Putney, VT, and Bill's teacher, Bruce can play any style, and he keeps it interesting. Every time Bruce takes a banjo break, jaws drop. Winner of the 2005 Merlefest banjo contest, & lifelong member of the Stockwell Brothers band, he now plays with Hot Mustard.

Bruce Hobart Bruce Hobart Bruce taught April how to sing and play, and gave her his J-45 guitar. The father/daughter duo still plays once a year as The Hobohemians. Bruce can sing any part, and plays mean mandolin, fiddle, guitar and harp.

JT Lawrence JT Lawrence An original member of The Birch Benders. JT has great energy and drive, and he puts it all into his playing. JT plays dobro & guitar too, and just about anything. He teaches music in Peterborough with Bill, and runs the Harlow's bluegrass jam with April and Bill on Thursdays.

Jamie Butrym Jamie Butrym Jamie got his first mandolin to help with his fiddle playing, and he hasn't been able to put it down ever since. He's got a fantastic bluegrass voice and great chops on the mandolin, as well as guitar, fiddle & bass. Jamie plays regularly with Elise Marie and the Flames, and The Waylanders.

Ben Weiss Ben Weiss Ben has played mandolin with a few respected bands, such as the Stillhouse Jammers out of the Monadnock region of New Hampshire. A great singer too, high and lonesome. He's got real talent and the best smile in bluegrass. It's always a treat to play with Ben.

Adam Buchwald Adam Buchwald Adam is a luthier in Post Mills, VT, where he makes beautiful instruments and teaches courses on building and repair. Adam also hosts shows at his shop and gets first-rate performers to come play on a regular basis. Adam's a great mandolin player and really drives it.

Elise Laflamme Elise Laflamme Heading up Elise Marie and the Flames, and sporting the best hair in bluegrass, Elise plays a mean fiddle and is great fun to sing with. She gets all those high tenor parts. You'll find Elise pickin' and grinnin' at just about every bluegrass festival in New England, all night long, all summer long.

Kelly Stockwell Kelly Stockwell Kelly invented bluegrass jamball and is a driving force behind Hot Mustard. After a few years playing bass, she's solid, keeping the beat with a lonesome thud, and never letting the band lose the drive. Kelly has played with many different players (Tony Trischka in her pic), and loves every minute!

John Meehan Dave Taylor You'll often see the Birch Benders play as a foursome these days of original members Bill, April & JT, and this guy on guitar. April thumps on the bass on those occasions. You'll see this ensemble at Harlow's bluegrass jam every Thursday.

John Meehan John Meehan An original Birch Benders member, John's been on the bluegrass scene for years and can play any instrument. He teaches guitar at Cheshire Music in Keene, plays and sings in a few bands, and writes great songs.
